I received everything on my wish list this year including this jacket!! A very merry Christmas indeed. I think however, for me, I most enjoy seeing the looks on loved ones faces as they open their gifts. Did you get everything on your wish list this year? I feel so blessed for this past year and I've been so busy that I completely let the one year anniversary of Rachael Passing Notes go by without even realizing it! I'll be doing a special post to celebrate. I can't believe its already been a year! I'm looking forward to setting new goals for the upcoming year and sharing more of the things I love right here!

All Wrapped Up

posted on: Monday, December 27

How was everyone's holiday? I've been eating WAY too much food and have thoroughly enjoyed cozying up during this winter storm that is sweeping through the east coast. We're supposed to get between 15 and 20 inches in NYC! I love the quietness that a big snowfall brings with it. Look here to see some snapshots that I took from one of our winter storms last year. On a slightly similar note, I thought I'd share my gift wrapping job. I scored a great deal after procrastinating buying my wrapping paper this year and got 50% off at Kate's Paperie on all wrapping and ribbons. They looked so festive when I got done, and I topped off my gifts with these gift tags. It's all in the presentation, right?! I hope everyone is staying wrapped up and cozy!!

Merry Christmas

posted on: Thursday, December 23

I will officially be headed home today!! I'm so excited to get home and spend quality time with family cooking, eating, caroling, exchanging gifts, watching movies, and generally goofing off. Some of our family Christmas traditions include watching the movie Captain Ron, gathering around and singing Beatles songs while my Uncle plays his guitar, and, of course, making Christmas cookies for Santa. Now that I list them out I realize how bizarre these traditions may sound to others but I love that it is the quirky little things that bring families together and become traditions that are shared and passed along. What are your Christmas traditions? I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday filled with food, fun, and laughter! Cheers!

Personalized Notecards

posted on: Tuesday, December 21

I recently put together some packages of personalized notecards for family and friends. I designed the notecards and added initials for a personal touch. I also used the leftover scraps of paper to make bookmarks and then packaged everything up. I used the holiday gift tags from Eat Drink Chic and then hand drew the envelopes to tie in the theme of the gift tags. All in all a fun project and a great homemade gift!

How To: Festive Nails

posted on: Monday, December 20

I am one of those girls who always has her nails painted and frequently let them chip away before reapplying or getting them done again. One of the perks of living in NYC however, is that there are nail salons on every other block with $10 manicures! But, I also enjoy painting them myself and have a growing selection of fun colors to choose from. My newest obsession is the nail art pen by Sally Hansen. Follow these 4 easy steps to get fun and festive nails:

  • Paint one to two layers of a base color on your nails. {I chose Essie's 'show me the ring' as my base color.}
  • Let the base color dry well for a good half hour or so then paint {or have a friend help paint} stripes on each nail using a nail art pen. {I used Sally Hansen red.}
  • Paint a final top coat to seal. I went with an extra coat of my base color, which is a very opaque shade and gave my top coat a nice shimmer.
  • Finally, use a q-tip and some nail polish remover to clean up the edges and let dry.

You can also use a fun and bright color as your base coat. I did a trial run with Essie's Turks and Caicos and it was super cute. And, of course feel free to get creative with the nail art pen with polka dots, stars, or other designs. Enjoy!

Marimekkos advent calendar, yes please.

Show me your mumu.

Love these. Cha ching!

These ornaments are oh-so-pretty.

Speaking of ornaments, make your own.

If I were going to get a bicycle, it would be this one.

Kate is full of amazing goodness. Like this and this.

I think I need a Pantone credit card in my wallet.

Some twine for all of those fun projects.

Some felt garland for your mantel.

Or, better yet, do-it-yourself garland.

This Christmas story made me chuckle.

Brilliant letterpress holiday cards that double as ornaments.

Fashion On A Budget

Whenever I go home I visit a little boutique store called Francesca's Collections and needless to say I always leave with multiple items. They have adorable clothes and accessories with prices that are on par with Forever 21 but, I think their clothes are slightly better quality. That being said, most items are under $50 and there are lots of fun things to choose from. I threw together this outfit that would be perfect for the holidays and, get this, you can get all of these items for under $150. Score! Visit their website here and click here to see if they have a store near you.

Wedding Wednesday: Ivy & Aster

The Ivy & Aster site is here and it is dreamy! The dresses are whimsical and simply gorgeous and I love the storybook that tells the sweet tale of this fanciful line. I also adore the bridal short dresses and cocktail dresses, so cute and a style for every bride! Oh and those stunning photos? They were taken by the talented Elizabeth MessinaYou can also see Ivy & Aster in my post from Bridal Market here and, if you're in NYC and want to see these dresses for yourself, be sure to visit Lovely.

And they lived happily ever after...

Recipe Time: Crunchy Caramel Corn

posted on: Tuesday, December 14

This past weekend was one of the laziest weekends that I can recall having in a while. {Rain and gloomy weather will do that.} We barely left the couch and it was perfect! When we got a craving for a snack I had to get crafty with whatever was in the kitchen and remembered this super easy recipe for caramel corn. It only took a few minutes to whip up and once it was ready we ate ALL of it! A savory snack with just the right amount of salty and sweet. I'll definitely be making a batch when I head home for Christmas! Find the recipe below.

Crunchy Caramel Corn

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 10 cups plain popped popcorn

  • 1 cup cashews, coarsely chopped

  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar

  • salt

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Butter a large rimmed baking sheet; set aside. Place popcorn in a large bowl; add cashews to bowl and toss to combine. Set aside.

  • In a small saucepan, bring butter, sugar, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and 2 tablespoons water to a boil, stirring constantly. Working quickly, drizzle popcorn with sugar syrup, and toss.

  • Spread popcorn evenly on prepared baking sheet. Bake, tossing occasionally, until golden and shiny, about 40 minutes. Transfer hot popcorn to parchment-paper-lined baking sheet; let cool. Store in airtight container up to 1 week.
